NABERS (the National Australian Built Environment Rating Scheme) is a national programme managed by NSW. SPR was commissioned to assess the feasibility of establishing dedicated ratings tools for the built-to-rent and/or student accommodation sectors in Australia. Our assessment included extensive consultation with industry and government stakeholders in both sectors to assess market interest, alongside primary and secondary data capture and modelling to quantify potential savings impacts. We examined options including new tools and adapting existing tools (hotels,apartment base buildings and aged care/retirement living). The study quantifies expected market growth to 2050 in each state and territory, potential energy and greenhouse gas emissions savings, and the value these savings to building owners and occupants.
