Future of Energy in Tasmania

SPR were commissions to quantify the likely scale of investment in clean energy, and related employment creation, in Tasmania, under a range of plausible scenarios. The project scope included stationary and transport-related energy demand and emissions from the residential, commercial,industrial and electricity generation sectors. In particular, we reviewed the local impact of AEMO’s Step Change and Green Energy Exports scenarios, and construct a third scenario that:

• Is broadly consistent with Step Change (widely viewed as the ‘most likely’ ofAEMO’s scenarios)
• Takes into account local plans for decarbonisation, whether by electrification or other forms of fuel switching, including to green hydrogen or biomass
• Reduces Tasmania’s energy-related emissions to zero as quickly as possible, and at least by 2050.

CZI used the results of our work to develop their "Future of Energy in Tasmania" report.
