SPR and DeltaQ were commissioned to update earlier work (2018 – 2019) that led to the report, Achieving Low Energy Commercial Buildings in Australia. This work was published by Energy Ministers and recommended approaches adopted in the National Construction Code (NCC) 2019. This update in 2022, looking forward to the next regulatory ‘window’ in 2025, involved – for SPR – a major analysis of the building archetypes suitable for use in Code development; consideration of climate change/heat wave impacts, thermal comfort requirements and their feed backs into energy efficiency requirements; integration of solar PV into building solutions and performance requirements; revised benefit cost analysis and energy/greenhouse gas impact assessment; and recommendations for future Code development. The key approaches recommended are now being implemented in 2025.
