SPR - in conjunction with RED Sustainability Consultants, Ecolateral Pty Ltd, and quantity surveyors, Steele Wrobel – undertook detailed data analyses, simulation modelling and cost benefit analyses, to test the robustness of a range of policy options for improving the energy performance of Queensland homes.
This project involved several phases and ran for almost 18 months. We examined three major potential policy changes in detail. First, there was the potential to align the Queensland Development Code 4.1 (which sets energy performance requirements for buildings in QLD) with NCC2019 (noting this project pre-dated the application of NCC2022). QLD has since adopted NCC2019 and also NCC2022. Second, we examined options to improve compliance with energy performance requirements. Finally, we examined proposals to require application of specific structural and thermal performance improvements in cyclone-risk areas of Queensland.
